I look forward to getting the Directory of Business and Industry which is published every year by BusinessNorth. Reading the latest issue; seeing the ads and articles encourages me, as it should all of the local residents and business owners, about just how robust our local economy is with the promise of a very hopeful year and prosperous future.
Having been privileged to assist many Twin Ports (area) business owners with marketing consulting and supplying them with imprinted promotional items for many years; I love to see their listing.
The following is an open letter to my own clients, but also to anyone involved in a business which keeps our local economy strong. I hope you’ll feel as if you’ve received these words penned in a letter you've found in your mailbox, signed and stamped with my sincere wish that you’ll have a super new year.
Here is my "Thank you Letter" to you,
the business owner:
Good morning.
You have probably never received a letter such as this before, but I’m thinking that you deserve this one and many others for things you’ve accomplished in the past and those you will in the future.
I’m writing to congratulate you and to say “thanks”; for your accomplishments and for all you, as a business owner do to raise the economy and the wellbeing of our local citizens. I think that all business owners should receive a congratulatory letter like this one every once in a while to let you know how great you are and that you do great things, and this one is for you. You probably started (business name) or accepted the position you hold because of your special desires and goals. However your typical business day is seldom like what you expected, but regardless of the interruptions and obstacles, because of your dedication and persistence, that you continue to grow as person, in turn, your business prospers and many people are helped; those that your business employs, your customers and many who you’ll never know. So many people who live here in our community are positively affected.
You wear many hats with your day filled with tasks such as networking to increase your circle of contacts, reviewing finances, paying bills, completing orders, dealing with human resource issues, assisting customers; and that’s just before lunch.
You plan your work and work your plan. You love your work because your work is your love and even though you live your life with balance; you can’t help taking your work with you when you leave the office because your work is "you"; it lives in your heart.
As a business owner, you are part of a special breed; failure is not an option because failure isn’t in your dictionary. You have desires and goals and you attain those desires and you reach those goals. And, by doing so you are not acting selfishly in any way because as you and your business grow; the community and the world around you grow.
I’m writing this to you today because just as children in school do not always receive the praise needed to let them know that they are valued, also when we become “children with long legs” we too could use a few accolades; especially when we take ownership not just of a business, but also the exclusive set of responsibilities which come with it.
I also wanted to remind you that you have many people in your sphere of contacts that admire you, appreciate what you are doing and how far you have come, but they may not always tell you. I wanted to take this time to be one who tells you that you are great and are doing a great thing by opening your doors each day.
We may or may not have met, but I can still genuinely and sincerely share these thoughts with you because I too am a local business owner.
I hope my letter has helped brighten your day. It is my way of commending you for all you’ve done and will hopefully continue to do for many years as you wish.
As one business owner to another, I say “Do well”.
Make it a great day!
Ter Scott!
